Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

Hi, I'm the person behind SteadyInk. You'd be right not to trust a privacy policy on faith, especially these days, when "we value your privacy" usually means your data is already training someone's model. Your manuscript is exactly the kind of thing that gets taken that way, so let me be plain: I built SteadyInk myself, and LocalStudio Labs LLC is just me and my girlfriend, the writer I made it for. I'm only in it for the word counts. I won't sell your writing, and I won't train on it, ever. And if I ever do, you have my email, come yell at me. The policy below spells that out properly, but that's the whole of it.

SteadyInk is operated by LocalStudio Labs LLC ("we", "us"). Which is just plain old me, If you have questions about this policy, contact me at hello@steadyink.app.

What SteadyInk does

SteadyInk connects to one document you choose and counts its words once a day, so you can see your writing progress without recording anything by hand. Each project tracks one document for its lifetime.

Information we collect

Account information. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link. We do not store a password.

Project information. What you tell us about each project: its name, an optional word-count goal and target date, your daily thresholds, your timezone, and the time of day you want your document counted.

Google account data. Described in detail below.

Google user data

When you connect a manuscript, you grant SteadyInk the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope. This is a per-file scope: it gives us access only to the specific file you select in Google's file picker. We cannot see, list, or open any other file in your Google Drive.

With that access, we:

We never modify your document. SteadyInk only reads it. If you highlight pasted text in magenta so those words are excluded from your daily writing totals, that highlighting is yours to keep or remove — we never change it, and once those words have been counted as imported they are never counted again.

What we store:

What we do not do: We do not use your writing to train machine-learning models. We do not sell it. We do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. We do not read any file other than the one you selected.

Limited Use

SteadyInk's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Service providers

We use these providers to run SteadyInk. They process data only to provide their service to us:

Retention and deletion

You can also revoke SteadyInk's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To request deletion or ask what we hold about you, contact hello@steadyink.app.

Cookies and local storage

We store a sign-in session in your browser so you stay logged in. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Children

SteadyInk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you by email.
