SteadyInkis operated by LocalStudio Labs LLC ("we", "us"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@steadyink.app.
What SteadyInk does
SteadyInk connects to one document you choose and counts its words once a day, so you can see your writing progress without recording anything by hand. Each project tracks one document for its lifetime.
Information we collect
Account information. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link. We do not store a password.
Project information. What you tell us about each project: its name, an optional word-count goal and target date, your daily thresholds, your timezone, and the time of day you want your document counted.
Google account data. Described in detail below.
Google user data
When you connect a manuscript, you grant SteadyInk the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope. This is a per-file scope: it gives us access only to the specific file you selectin Google's file picker. We cannot see, list, or open any other file in your Google Drive.
With that access, we:
- read your document's text and tab structure once per day, at the time you choose;
- read your document's title, so we can show you what is connected.
We never modify your document. SteadyInk only reads it. If you highlight pasted text in magenta so those words are excluded from your daily writing totals, that highlighting is yours to keep or remove — we never change it, and once those words have been counted as imported they are never counted again.
What we store:
- The most recent text of your document, encrypted. We keep it only so we can compare it with tomorrow's version and tell you how many words you added and removed. It is overwritten every time we count. We keep no history of earlier versions. It is deleted when you delete the project.
- Your word counts: daily totals, words added, words removed, and per-chapter counts. These are the point of the service, and we keep them until you delete the project or your account.
- An encrypted Google credential (a refresh token), so we can count your document while you are not using the app. It is encrypted at rest and never leaves our servers.
What we do not do: We do not use your writing to train machine-learning models. We do not sell it. We do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. We do not read any file other than the one you selected.
Limited Use
SteadyInk's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Service providers
We use these providers to run SteadyInk. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Railway — application hosting
- Vercel — website hosting
- Google — Docs and Drive APIs, to read the document you connect
- Resend — sending sign-in emails
- Stripe — payment processing (payment card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store them)
Retention and deletion
- Delete a project — its word counts, stored text, and Google credential are deleted.
- Delete your account — everything associated with it is deleted.
You can also revoke SteadyInk's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To request deletion or ask what we hold about you, contact hello@steadyink.app.
Cookies and local storage
We store a sign-in session in your browser so you stay logged in. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
Children
SteadyInk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
